When the Tanks Burst
On January 15th, 1919, Boston witnessed a disaster unlike any other. A massive tank filled with that thick sweet nectar burst open in the city's North End, unleashing a wave of sticky sweetness that swept through the streets like a tsunami. The flood, soaring to 25 feet in some areas, was devastating. Structures succumbed under the force of the unstoppable goo.
The aftermath was tragic. Twenty-one people lost their lives, and many more were injured. The flood also caused a great deal of destruction to property, leaving a trail of molasses carnage in its wake.
Boston's Sticky Nightmare
